About this simulation

Sala de control alimentaria (Food Plant Control Room). Spanish vocational training (FP), Industrias Alimentarias family: module 0469 Procesos integrados en la industria alimentaria of the Tecnico Superior en Procesos y Calidad en la Industria Alimentaria (grado superior, Real Decreto 451/2010).

The learner is Noelia Cobeaga, a newly qualified control-room technician at a fictional yogurt plant, running the night shift alone from the control room and deciding, sensor by sensor, when to adjust and when to stop.

Four rounds, four moments of one night: the handover and the alarm board (37 standing alarms, two of them from critical control points; a new pH probe nobody verified), the pH of a fermentation tank that does not come down (the cause in the temperature trend; the tank held and recorded), a pressure alarm on the plate cooler (the line stopped and the product diverted; a leak test and samples before restarting) and a metal detector rejecting cups before the 06:30 truck (the filler stopped and tested with test pieces; only released product shipped, the handover in writing).

Eight four-option decisions scored on conforming product, minutes of line stopped, avoidable cost and process control; three critical errors cap the round at 40: blending out-of-spec product with good product, forcing a critical-point interlock, and loading product on hold onto a truck. Lesson: stopping in time costs less than recalling later.

Training level only: decision practice that complements supervised plant training and the plant's HACCP plan; fictional company, people and figures; no real process settings. Spanish player-facing strings with full English parity.

What participants learn

After the session, participants will be able to:

  • Take over a control room by reviewing the alarms of critical points first, sending nuisance alarms to maintenance and verifying the sensors the night's critical decisions will rest on
  • Diagnose a pH, pressure, flow or detector deviation by reading it against the other signals on the screen, correct its cause and decide whether to adjust or to stop
  • Decide when to stop the line or the filler because a critical condition is not met, hold product back to the last good reading, never force an interlock, and justify with figures why a stop costs less
  • Hold, label and record doubtful product and call quality, neither diluting it into good product nor dumping it unassessed
  • Ship only released product, tell the customer what is missing and hand over every deviation, hold and pending decision to the relief in writing

Who it is for

An intermediate simulation for participants who already know the core concepts of the subject, designed for master's and MBA programmes.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: Martes 16 de marzo, 22:00: el relevo y el tablero.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • Qué haces con el tablero de alarmas
  • Cómo empiezas con los sensores
  • Cómo respondes a la desviación de pH
  • Qué haces con el producto del tanque 3
  • Qué haces con la línea
  • Cómo confirmas lo que pasa
  • Qué haces con el detector de metales
  • Qué sale en el camión de las 06:30
