About this simulation

The learner is Nerea Valcarcel, a newly qualified stage manager at a fictional production company running the stage of an awards gala broadcast live from a 2,400-seat auditorium, giving lighting, sound, flying and entrance cues over the intercom.

Four rounds, four moments of one evening: the dress rehearsal (a closed running order with numbered cues and a plan B per block; the intercom tested position by position, the new security channel included), on air (a fly bar cue held until the stage is clear and confirmed; a dead presenter mic covered by the written plan B), a live link that does not arrive (the gala reordered with the written alternative; every changed cue announced on the general channel and repeated back) and a fire alarm during the last number (the stage stopped on the agreed signal for whoever directs the venue's emergency action plan; the show resumed only with that clearance).

Eight four-option decisions scored on clean cues, minutes lost, avoidable cost and stage control; three critical errors cap the round at 40: lowering a hanging load over people on stage, silencing a fire alarm to carry on, and resuming without the emergency-plan director's clearance. Lesson: live, the prepared running order is what lets you improvise.

Training level only: decision practice that complements supervised practical training and the venue's self-protection plan; fictional company, venue, channel, people and figures. Spanish player-facing strings with full English parity.

What participants learn

After the session, participants will be able to:

  • Design a live-show preparation that can absorb failures: a closed running order with numbered cues, timings and a plan B per block, walked through with each department, and every intercom position tested before the rehearsal
  • Apply the rule that a flying or scenery cue is given only when the stage is clear and someone who can see it confirms, and tell the gallery what changes, never trading a person's safety for the timing
  • Evaluate on-air incidents by covering a known failure with its plan B, reordering the show around a missing element with a prepared alternative and confirming changed cues by read-back, and justify with figures why lost minutes cost less than failed cues
  • Apply the emergency action plan when an alarm sounds: alert whoever directs the plan, stop the stage on the agreed signal and have the stage's message and posts ready, without silencing the alarm or taking the plan director's decision
  • Plan the return to air only with the plan director's clearance and an agreed running order for the time left, and log every incident in the stage report for the closing review

Who it is for

An intermediate simulation for participants who already know the core concepts of the subject, designed for master's and MBA programmes.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: Sábado 13 de noviembre, 19:00: el ensayo general.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • Cómo preparas la escaleta
  • Cómo compruebas que cada puesto te oye
  • Qué haces con el pie de la vara
  • Cómo respondes al micro caído
  • Cómo reordenas la gala
  • Cómo comunicas los pies cambiados
  • Cómo respondes a la alarma
  • Cómo vuelves a la gala
