About this simulation

A 90-minute, 4-round basic Express simulation for Spanish vocational training (Formacion Profesional), module Administracion, gestion y comercializacion en la pequena empresa of the Tecnico superior en Optica de Anteojeria (Real Decreto 370/2001), also usable in the module Atencion al cliente en establecimientos de productos opticos.

The learner is Lucia Ocon, a newly qualified optical technician who runs the buying, the stock and the shop floor of a fictional neighbourhood optician's in Logrono through 2027: one shop of about 110 m2 with an optometry room and a mounting workshop, frames bought from the brands' reps and lenses from a laboratory.

Four situations set the year's course: a stock count with 430 frames asleep and a designer brand's minimum order, and how the frames are bought (by range from the sales and the stock counted, with a return clause) and which ranges are carried (aligned with the neighbourhood's customer, the designer brand on deposit); a Saturday queue and late remakes, and how the eye exams are organised (by appointment with the optometrist, never a prescription taken by anyone else) and how the workshop runs (two rounds a day, every pair checked at the frontofocometro); a chain's 2x1 and 96 frames of 2025, and how the glasses are priced (from the cost of each range) and what is done with the dormant frames (returned or sold as the previous collection, never retagged as new); and the progressive-lens peak, and how the fourth quarter is staffed (one temporary technician and the agenda) and how the year is recorded (a stock record with its causes).

Two critical errors cap the round: the sight taken without the optometrist and an old frame sold as the new collection. KPIs: stock that turns, controllable cost, lost sales per 1,000 customers and customer complaints. Lesson: ranges and stock aligned with the customer avoid capital asleep in the window. Spanish primary, English parity. Fictional shop, company and people; real curriculum and Spanish rules cited.

What participants learn

After the session, participants will be able to:

  • Calculate a frame purchase by range from the shop's own sales by range and brand and the stock counted, with a minimum, a maximum and a return clause, and explain why dormant stock and lost sales are two sides of one purchase
  • Evaluate the assortment from the neighbourhood's sales tickets, with depth where customers buy and the designer brand on deposit, and explain why a window of brands nobody buys is capital asleep
  • Apply the professional rules of an optician's: eye exams by appointment with the technical director, no prescription taken by anyone else, and every pair checked at the lensmeter before delivery
  • Analyze each range's cost and multiplier to set its price, and return or clear dormant frames as the previous collection, never tagging an old frame as new
  • Plan staff and bookings for the fourth-quarter progressive-lens peak and design a stock record by range and brand, with the dormant list and its causes, that drives next year's buying list

Prerequisites

  • The optician's products and the mounting workshop

Who it is for

An introductory simulation that assumes no prior knowledge of the subject, designed for undergraduate courses. It also works in vocational and high-school programmes and in onboarding sessions.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: lunes 11 de enero, 9:30: las compras y las gamas.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • Cómo se compran las monturas
  • Qué gamas lleva la tienda
  • Cómo se organizan las revisiones de la vista
  • Cómo funciona el taller
  • Cómo se ponen los precios
  • Qué se hace con las monturas dormidas
  • Cómo se organiza el cuarto trimestre
  • Cómo se registra el año
