Hermanos al Mando

A 90-minute, 4-round Express simulation from the seat of one of two siblings whom the board of a family firm appointed joint chief executives when their father retired, on making shared leadership work: allocating roles by capability rather than birth order - two role profiles, an independent assessment, one domain each and a short list of joint decisions with joint signatures; designing a deadlock ladder before the first deadlock - negotiation on one page, a mediator, then the board with the chair's casting vote; settling the first clash through it; giving the managers caught between the two one voice; holding the tie-breaker when it rules against you and keeping the business out of the family and the family out of the board; and reviewing the arrangement and passing the founder's shares under a shareholders' agreement that carries the ladder into ownership.

Marta Cegarra Penalva (fictional) leads Transportes Cegarra, a fictional refrigerated haulier and cold-store operator in Totana (Murcia), with her brother Javier from 2027 to 2030.

You decide how the two of you split the roles and how a deadlock is broken, how the first clash is settled and what is done about the managers caught between you, what you do when the casting vote goes partly against you and how the relationship is protected, and who leads from 2030 and how your father's 40% is passed on.

Scored on the company led as one, the chance that the shared leadership holds, the company's value protected, your time and energy, the board's and the managers' confidence, the siblings' relationship, and open risk; two shortcuts (a contract signed alone with joint-and-several powers before the board meets, a sibling's company mailbox opened to prove a breach) come back and cap the score.
