About this simulation

Ruta de montana con incidencias (Mountain Guiding). Spanish vocational training (FP), grado medio: module 1333 Guia de baja y media montana of the Tecnico en Guia en el Medio Natural y de Tiempo Libre (Real Decreto 402/2020).

The learner is Lucia Erdozain, a young guide at a fictional mountain-activities company, leading twelve adults up a fictional 1,912 m peak on a day with a yellow thunderstorm warning for the afternoon.

Four rounds, four stages of one day: the plan at the car park (forecast, turnaround time, escape route, and whom the plan is left with), fog and a participant falling behind on the plateau (pace and head counts), a twisted ankle in wind and drizzle (first-aid-level protection from the cold, no diagnosis, and a 112 alert with the location), and a storm that arrives early at the col (summit, unmarked gully, a hut on the ridge, or retreat by the known path, and whom to notify).

Each round pairs an action with a communication or record choice and is scored on the day so far: safety margin, delay on the timetable, group exposure in person-hours after what a good alert and a known plan avoid, and group confidence. Leaving a participant alone and climbing to the summit with a storm overhead past the turnaround time cap the round.

Lesson: turning back in time is a guide's decision, not a failure. Deterministic expected values; Spanish primary with full English parity.

Who it is for

An intermediate simulation for participants who already know the core concepts of the subject, designed for master's and MBA programmes.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: Sábado 12 de junio, 08:15, aparcamiento de Aldaketa: el plan.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • Cómo planificas la ruta
  • A quién dejas el plan
  • Cómo llevas el ritmo
  • Qué consignas das al grupo
  • Cómo atiendes a Maite
  • A quién avisas y cómo
  • Qué hacéis
  • A quién avisas y qué apuntas
