About this simulation

A 90-minute, 4-round Express simulation from the learner's own chair as the tech lead of a payments squad in a Spanish online grocery whose status report - the migration to a new payment provider is green, go-live on 1 March - is contradicted by a peer in front of the team at the daily standup, played from the forty seconds after the objection to the sprint retrospective three weeks later, February 2027: parking a public disagreement with a named time, an owner and a status instead of arguing it out, conceding without data or shutting it down, what the daily standup is for, talking first to the person who raised it, asking for his data before showing yours and sorting fact from artefact and unknown, settling a disagreement about facts with an agreed test and criteria written in advance rather than by rank, escalation or a split, keeping the number and the record whole, closing the loop with the team together, naming the catch in the retrospective, and a team working agreement for disagreement in the daily instead of a promise, a ban or padded dates.

The seat: the owner of a card-payments migration worth EUR 8,000 a month in lower fees at Albufresc, S.L. (fictional, Valencia, 230 people), contradicted by the squad's QA and reconciliation lead, who is right about partial refunds that do not reconcile and wrong about 3-D Secure rejections that come from the sandbox.

You decide what you say in the next forty seconds and whom you talk to first, what the conversation is about and where you have it, how the go/no-go is decided and recorded and what the team hears, and what you say in the retrospective and what working agreement the team leaves with.

Scored on the disagreement settled on the facts, the chance that the migration goes right first time, the fee saving protected, your energy, your relationship with your peer, your credibility, and open risk; two shortcuts (a reconciliation rerun with the partial refunds filtered out shown as complete, and a ticket rewritten so that you flagged the risk first) look like winning and cap the score.

ES (Spain) primary, EN parity.

Who it is for

An intermediate simulation for participants who already know the core concepts of the subject, designed for master's and MBA programmes.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: Martes 9 de febrero de 2027, 9:31: los cuarenta segundos.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • Qué dices en los próximos cuarenta segundos
  • Con quién hablas primero
  • De qué va la conversación
  • Dónde la tenéis
  • Cómo se decide la salida y cómo queda escrita
  • Qué oye el equipo
  • Qué dices en la retrospectiva
  • Con qué acuerdo sale el equipo
