About this simulation

A 90-minute, 4-round basic Express simulation for Spanish vocational training (Formacion Profesional), module 0718 Circuitos electricos, electronicos y de confortabilidad of the Tecnico en Electromecanica de Maquinaria (Real Decreto 255/2011; Orden EDU/1296/2011).

The learner is Ainhoa Pomar, a newly qualified field-service and electronics technician at a fictional agricultural machinery workshop, Agromecanica Ollarte in Castejon de Laria.

Four situations set the workshop's course in 2027: a contractor's seed drill that the tractor's terminal no longer finds, and how the tractor and the implement are secured (implement lowered, PTO disengaged, engine stopped, key out and tagged, connectors only with the key off) and the fault approached (operator, the codes of every control unit, the bus diagram, whether the fault follows the implement or stays with the tractor); a farmer's sprayer with bus errors after an extension harness with its own terminator was fitted, and how the bus is measured (resistance and voltages on the diagram against the manufacturer's values) and the terminations dealt with (exactly one at each end); a cooperative's baler that loses the bus on the bumps, and how the intermittent dropout is isolated (reproduced with the machine stopped, control units isolated one at a time) and the harness repaired (to the make, lines kept twisted); and the annual review of how the workshop works (written routine, pre-season bus check) and closes each job (bus measured again, field test).

On a bus, a bad termination can look like a failed control unit.

Scored on the faults diagnosed right first time, the cost of diagnosis and parts, the hours a machine stands still per fault and the control units and parts replaced without need; training-level decision practice that complements the module's supervised practical work and each manufacturer's procedures, with no resistance, voltage, pin-out or procedure given.

Two critical safety errors cap the round at 40: the implement connector unplugged with the engine running and the PTO engaged (Real Decreto 1215/1997 annex II, 1.14), and the baler's stop circuit bridged with the PTO running (Real Decreto 1215/1997 annex I, 1.8 and 1.3). Spanish primary, English parity.

What participants learn

After the session, participants will be able to:

  • Secure a tractor and implement before opening any connector: brake on, implement lowered, PTO disengaged, engine stopped, key tagged, connectors handled with the key off and nobody beside the implement
  • Diagnose a bus fault from the operator, the codes of every control unit and the bus diagrams, checking whether the fault follows the implement or stays with the tractor before ordering a unit
  • Verify a bus by measuring line resistance key off and voltages key on against the manufacturer's values, and judge its terminations: exactly one at each end, never an extra resistor where it fails
  • Isolate an intermittent dropout with the machine stopped, disconnecting units one at a time key off, and repair the harness with the make's sealed connector and twisted lines, never bridging a stop circuit
  • Plan a workshop routine that re-measures the bus and works the implement with the operator in the field before hand-back, quotes the diagnosis in writing, checks the bus at every pre-season service and owns comebacks

Who it is for

An introductory simulation that assumes no prior knowledge of the subject, designed for undergraduate courses. It also works in vocational and high-school programmes and in onboarding sessions.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: lunes 15 de febrero, 8:00: la sembradora que la pantalla ya no encuentra.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • Cómo se aseguran el tractor y el apero antes de abrir un conector
  • Cómo se enfoca primero la avería
  • Cómo se mide el bus
  • Qué se hace con las terminaciones
  • Cómo se aísla el corte intermitente
  • Qué se hace con el mazo de cables
  • Cómo trabaja el taller
  • Cómo se cierra cada trabajo
