About this simulation

A 90-minute, 4-round basic Express simulation for Spanish vocational training (Formacion Profesional, grado superior), module 0601 Gestion de proyectos de instalaciones de telecomunicaciones of the Tecnico Superior en Sistemas de Telecomunicaciones e Informaticos.

You are Nerea Villasante, the new technician of the project office of Redes Sagra Telecom, a fictional telecommunications installer in the province of Toledo, which must deploy an operator's fibre-to-the-home network in the fictional town of Montalbir: 3,000 homes and premises in six zones, each waiting for a different permission (existing ducts, poles, facades, the buildings' own ICT, a trench in an industrial estate and a trench in the protected old town), over 26 weeks from March to August 2031 with the deadline in week 24.

Round by round you decide how to obtain the permits and how many crews to contract; the order of the zones and the purchasing of the material; subcontracting under the construction subcontracting law (REA register, subcontracting levels) and the acceptance testing of the fibre; and how to respond to a refused trench in the old town and to update the health and safety plan before new methods and crews start.

Each week the permits that arrive, the zones open, the crews at work and waiting, the homes passed, the first-pass acceptance, the expected accidents, the revenue and the cost are recomputed. Each round is scored on the margin, the homes passed by the deadline, the first-pass acceptance and the expected accidents, with the homes pending, the idle crew-weeks, the fines and the infractions shown but not scored.

Permits, not crews, set the critical path. A chain of subcontractors outside the REA, or new methods and crews without updating the safety plan, caps the score. Spanish with English.

Who it is for

An introductory simulation that assumes no prior knowledge of the subject, designed for undergraduate courses. It also works in vocational and high-school programmes and in onboarding sessions.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: Lunes 3 de marzo de 2031: los permisos y las cuadrillas.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.
