About this simulation

A 90-minute, 4-round basic Express simulation on preparing for business role-play events, for high-school CTE marketing, business-management and entrepreneurship programs and their career and technical student organization chapters: reading a business scenario against its performance indicators; practising in front of judges who hold the rubric; a practice plan written backward from the conference; splitting a team event with a partner; using only the scenario's numbers and labelled assumptions; a ten-minute presentation with a structure a judge can follow; answering judge questions with evidence and saying what you do not know; and a last week for rest and review.

DECA and FBLA are named as a context only; the four scenarios are original. Leilani Harwood, 16, is a fictional first-year competitor at the fictional Cedar Fork High School near Sedalia, Missouri, preparing for a district conference on 12 February 2028.

Round by round you decide how you read a scenario and who you practise in front of, how your practice is scheduled and how you split the team event, where your numbers come from and how your ten minutes are structured, and how you answer the judge and spend the last week; at each practice night the season is projected again with the decisions taken so far.

Each round is scored on the judge's score, the cram minutes, the judge's doubt, the full practice runs and your partner's trust, with open violations shown alongside; an invented statistic said as fact or a made-up fact in an answer to the judge caps the score (FBLA Honor Code). English with Spanish.

What participants learn

After the session, participants will be able to:

  • Analyze a business scenario against its performance indicators, giving each indicator a point and a scenario fact and building the plan for the sheet the judge holds
  • Structure and deliver a persuasive ten-minute presentation with a greeting and the problem, a roadmap, one section per indicator named aloud, a recommendation and a close, on time
  • Answer a judge's questions in two or three sentences with a fact from the scenario, saying how one would find out instead of making a fact up
  • Plan deliberate practice backward from a fixed conference date, in front of real judges with the rubric, keeping the last week for rest and review
  • Use only numbers one can show, from the scenario's figures and simple math a judge can follow to assumptions labelled as assumptions

Who it is for

An introductory simulation that assumes no prior knowledge of the subject, designed for undergraduate courses. It also works in vocational and high-school programmes and in onboarding sessions.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: 3 January 2028: reading the scenario and finding real judges.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • How you read a scenario in the ten minutes of planning
  • Who you practise in front of
  • How your practice is scheduled
  • How you and Desmond split the team event
  • Where your numbers come from
  • How your ten minutes are structured
  • How you answer the judge's questions
  • How you spend the last week
