About this simulation

A 90-minute, 4-round basic Express simulation for Spanish vocational training (Formacion Profesional, grado superior), modules 0682 Gestion del montaje de instalaciones solares fotovoltaicas and 0683 Gestion del montaje de parques eolicos of the Tecnico Superior en Energias Renovables.

You are Irene Lafuente, the new site manager of a fictional EPC contractor building a hybrid plant in the province of Zaragoza: 8 wind turbines of 4.5 MW and 14 MWp of photovoltaic trackers sharing one substation, with commercial operation due 44 weeks after the start.

Through 2027 you decide the crews (sized and coordinated with approved safety plans, the usual two, six cheap subcontractors, or crews let in before their safety plan) and the supplies (a staged framework contract, ordering on need, everything at once, or the cheapest unvetted modules); the main crane (booked for the calm months, hired when ready, two cranes, or a small one) and the wind windows (lifts planned on the forecast inside the manufacturer's limits, decided each morning, lifting in gusts, or only in dead calm); the operating-authorisation file and grid checks (in parallel, at completion, a consultancy at the end, or energising before the authorisation) and the quality plan (by block, a final inspection, sampling or none); and the recovery of the delay and the handover.

Each round is scored on the projected build: margin, delay, cost overrun, reception quality and expected accidents, with open punch items and breaches shown but not scored. Every week of delay in commissioning is energy that is not sold.

Letting crews in before their safety plan is approved, or energising before the operating authorisation, caps the score (Real Decreto 1627/1997, articles 3 and 7; Real Decreto 1955/2000, article 115). Spanish with English.

Who it is for

An introductory simulation that assumes no prior knowledge of the subject, designed for undergraduate courses. It also works in vocational and high-school programmes and in onboarding sessions.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: Lunes 11 de enero de 2027: las cuadrillas y los suministros.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • Las cuadrillas
  • Los suministros
  • La grúa principal
  • Las ventanas de viento
  • Permisos y red
  • La calidad
  • El retraso
  • La entrega
