About this simulation

The learner is a 36-year-old senior product manager at a fictional software company in Bilbao, mother of a two-year-old, who promised to slow down and still wants the next promotion, and must redesign the next 24 months of work and home.

Decision 1, Monday 1 February 2027: the deal (drift home early with no paperwork, a formal reduction of hours to 80 percent under the Spanish Workers Statute, or a written adaptation of working time at full pay), who she tells (nobody, her manager in passing, or a one-page written proposal with results, what she stops, her hours and a six-month review) and the household (she absorbs it, a 50/50 task list, or each partner owns whole domains plus paid help).

Decision 2: what she cuts (a little of everything, the visible launch, or the glue work), her availability (always reachable, agreed windows with a backup, or a hidden night shift) and childcare (her mother as plan A, extended nursery hours, or nursery, a babysitter and the grandmother as backup).

Decision 3, when the promotion cycle opens: the promotion (step out this year, apply promising full availability, or apply on explicit terms), how her work is seen (hours, a monthly results note, or the note plus a sponsor on the committee) and time for herself and the couple.

Decision 4, in the second year: more intensity now, the same, or a ramp with school; her partner taking a job with two days a week in Madrid as it comes, in sequence, or turning it down; and the warning signs (push on, drop one more thing, or reset).

A deterministic month-by-month model turns these into her week of work and home in hours, her career trajectory, her share of the household load, what it costs the household in thousands of euros and open risk. The score combines the quality of each decision with those outcomes and is capped when she hides the load in a night shift. Spanish (primary, Spain) and English.

Who it is for

An intermediate simulation for participants who already know the core concepts of the subject, designed for master's and MBA programmes.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.
