About this simulation

A 90-minute, 4-round Express simulation in the learner's own chair on what a manager does when a key person leaves the team: announcing it the same day, in person, with words agreed with the person who leaves, telling first the people who inherit the work, passing on what only she knows by working side by side rather than by a handover document, re-planning the work with an acting lead and written criteria rather than spreading it, holding the team that stays with stay conversations, protecting the person who leaves from rumour, using what was built when her system fails, and applying the criteria at the ninety-day review.

Iria Castineiras Louro (fictional) leads the integrations team at Arnela Software, a fictional warehouse-software company in Santiago de Compostela; Noela Seoane Pineiro, the engineer who built and runs the integration with its largest client, a fictional supermarket chain, is leaving for a competitor, and the announcement is due today.

You decide how you announce it and whom you tell first, how what only Noela knows is passed on and what you do with her work, what you do when the competitor calls two more of the team and with the rumour that Noela is taking the client, and what you do on the night her system fails and at the review of the acting lead.

Scored on what Noela knew now held by others, the chance that the team and the client stay, the client revenue protected, your time and energy, your team's trust and your relationship with Noela, and open risk; two shortcuts (reading the leaver's corporate mailbox, asking her, now at the competitor, to log in and fix the outage) come back and cap the score. Spanish primary, English included.

Who it is for

An intermediate simulation for participants who already know the core concepts of the subject, designed for master's and MBA programmes.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: Lunes 1 de marzo de 2027: el anuncio.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • Cómo lo anuncias
  • A quién se lo dices primero
  • Cómo se traspasa lo que solo sabe Noela
  • Qué haces con su trabajo
  • Ardora llama a dos más
  • El rumor sobre Noela
  • La noche de la caída
  • La revisión a los noventa días
