About this simulation

A 90-minute, 4-round Express simulation from the seat of a young member of a community tourism association on the Pacific coast of Choco, Colombia, newly trained as a tourist guide, who becomes the coordinator of the visitor day: designing one sellable day around one story instead of eight stops, with a script, a group size the place can take and daylight to sail back; costing the visit per boat - gasoline, the boatman, the guides, lunch, the engine upkeep, materials and the community fund - for a full boat and a half-empty one, and pricing from that cost rather than from the hotels tour; running safety at sea by a written rule (life jackets worn, capacity kept, a go/no-go against a written sea limit, a last departure, checks and first aid); taking bookings with a deposit and posting the rotation of families and guides; keeping the visitor limit the assembly agreed when a large agency group asks; settling every visit with every hand and reading the accounts in the assembly; and reviewing prices and training the next guides every January.

Dayana Renteria Cuesta (fictional) coordinates the Asociacion Comunitaria Mar y Monte (fictional) of the fictional vereda Corocito, near Nuqui, from January 2027 to the end of 2028. You decide what the day is and how the price is set, how safety and bookings are run, what you do with a 40-person group when the limit is 24 and how the money is settled, and the 2028 prices and what the community builds next.

Scored on the visit run with its numbers, the chance that the venture is still running and paying the families, the community income protected, your time and energy, the community trust, the operation in order (sea and accounts), and open risk; two shortcuts (boats sailing overloaded in any sea, a group taken off the books) come back and cap the score. Spanish (Colombia) primary, English included.

Who it is for

An intermediate simulation for participants who already know the core concepts of the subject, designed for master's and MBA programmes.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: Lunes 11 de enero de 2027: los números del pasadía.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • Qué es el día que se vende
  • Cómo pones el precio
  • Cómo se maneja la seguridad en el mar
  • Cómo se manejan las reservas y la rotación
  • Qué haces con los 40
  • Cómo se liquida la plata con las familias
  • Los precios y el calendario de 2028
  • Qué construye la comunidad ahora
