About this simulation

A 90-minute, 4-round beginner Express simulation for Spanish vocational training (Formacion Profesional, grado medio), module 1227 Gestion de un pequeno comercio of the Tecnico en Actividades Comerciales. You are Nerea Albaladejo, who opens La Despensa de Vistabella, a fictional neighbourhood food shop in Murcia, on 1 April 2027; the plan is its first twelve months, April 2027 to March 2028.

Round by round you decide two things: in February 2027 the premises (main street, market corner, residential street or taking over an existing shop) and the money to open them (savings, a bank loan, supplier finance or consumer credit); in March the assortment and the price list; in July who works with you and how you buy; and in October the response to a discount supermarket that opens nearby and the Christmas campaign; at each decision point the twelve months are projected again with the decisions taken so far.

Each round is scored on the profit after your pay, the cash at twelve months, the margin of safety over the break-even point and your hours a week; a helper without Social Security registration, or stock bought without an invoice and sold without receipts, caps the score. Spanish with English.

Who it is for

An introductory simulation that assumes no prior knowledge of the subject, designed for undergraduate courses. It also works in vocational and high-school programmes and in onboarding sessions.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: Lunes 1 de febrero de 2027: el local y el dinero para abrir.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • El local
  • El dinero para abrir
