About this simulation

A 90-minute, 4-round basic Express simulation for Spanish vocational training (Formacion Profesional, grado superior), module 0280 Organizacion de la produccion en confeccion industrial of the Tecnico Superior en Patronaje y Moda and en Diseno y Produccion de Calzado y Complementos.

You are Antia Fervenza, the new production organiser of Confecciones Sarandon S.L., a fictional womenswear brand of San Cibrao das Vinas (Ourense) with 48 people and its own sewing workshop of 30 operators, and the managing director asks you to produce the spring-summer season over 24 weeks, from January to June 2028.

The workshop makes 2,082.4 garments a week while the spring drops ask for 2,760: the brand delivers 61% of its garments on time, loses 16% of the stores demand to stockouts and earns a margin of about 1%. A garment that arrives after its week sells at a 45% markdown.

Round by round you decide two things: fabric purchasing and the split between the own workshop and external workshops; the lot by size and colour and the sequence of the cuts; the mid-season reading and the workshop for the peak; and how to answer a chain extra order and a summer fabric that arrives three weeks late.

Each week capacity, the queue, cancellations, on-time deliveries, markdowns, leftover, stockouts and the result are recomputed. Each round is scored on the result improvement over 24 weeks, the on-time deliveries to stores, the stockouts and the cost a garment, with the margin, the share sewn outside, the leftover and the lead time shown but not scored.

A workshop that sews cash with unregistered workers or a fabric sold under false composition labels caps the score. Spanish with English.

Who it is for

An introductory simulation that assumes no prior knowledge of the subject, designed for undergraduate courses. It also works in vocational and high-school programmes and in onboarding sessions.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: Lunes 3 de enero de 2028: el tejido y la capacidad.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • La compra de tejido
  • Taller propio o talleres externos
  • El lote por talla y color
  • La secuencia de los cortes
  • La lectura de la temporada
  • El taller de la punta
  • El pedido extra de Almacenes Vilaboa
