SlackOverthink — Drafted Four Times, Still in the Box

A 3-round micro-simulation on async message overthink. Apply the 4-question tight-frame, rewrite a Slack draft in 3 sentences, then decide whether to send, schedule, or escalate. Built to teach hedges-are-tells, response-shape specification, and diminishing returns on edits.

Who it is for

An introductory simulation that assumes no prior knowledge of the subject, designed for undergraduate courses. It also works in vocational and high-school programmes and in onboarding sessions.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 3 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • 1. What single outcome do you want?
  • 2. What single thing are you worried they will think?
  • 3. Is the worry based on evidence about this person, or anxiety?
  • 4. Would a 3-sentence version do the job?
  • Sentence 1 — context
  • Sentence 2 — your ask or view
  • Sentence 3 — response shape
  • Hedges in your final version
  • Response shape you specified
  • What do you do with the 3-sentence version?
