About this simulation

A 90-minute, 4-round basic Express simulation on payment options and point-of-sale systems for US high-school Career and Technical Education marketing courses (Arizona Marketing Technical Standards 3.9 and 5.5) and introductory retail and small-business classes.

Chubasco Shave Ice (a fictional one-truck business in Tucson, Arizona that sells shave ice at pools, ballparks and a night market): as the new operations coordinator, you decide how the truck gets paid over one monsoon summer.

You choose the POS system and the card-processing plan, a third way to pay and how cash is handled, what to do when storms knock out the signal and how to take party orders by phone, and whether to offer buy now, pay later and how to ask for tips.

Scored on profit after payment costs, the share of would-be customers who can pay and are served, customer satisfaction, and compliance with card-network rules, PCI DSS and the federal tip rule.

Who it is for

An introductory simulation that assumes no prior knowledge of the subject, designed for undergraduate courses. It also works in vocational and high-school programmes and in onboarding sessions.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: Monday 3 May 2027: the POS and the processing plan (20 min).
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.
