About this simulation

A newly qualified commerce technician opens the first online shop of a fictional neighbourhood hardware shop in Gijon (Spain) and has eight weeks, from 1 February to 28 March 2027, to make the channel add up. The shop has 3,200 references in its till system and 2,400 loyalty-card customers; small orders average EUR 34 and bulky ones EUR 96, with a 40% margin.

Over four fortnightly decisions the participant chooses what is sold online (the whole till catalogue, the wholesaler catalogue too, or 180 references chosen for sales, margin and shipping), how product pages are written (supplier text, own photos and specifications, or unchecked AI text) and how online stock is kept (weekly by hand, shown as always available, or synchronised daily with a safety margin); how shipping is priced (free, a flat EUR 9.90, or free above EUR 49 with local fees and collection), what happens to bulky items and what the returns policy says (60 days free, no returns, or the legal 14-day withdrawal clearly stated); the first ad campaigns (boosted posts, national catalogue ads or local search ads), their weekly budget and the number that decides which ads continue (likes, sales ROAS or contribution); and for the Father's Day fortnight whether to double, stop or reallocate the ads, which promotion to run and whom to e-mail.

The model is deterministic and rebuilt from the decision history each fortnight: orders from organic visits, ads and e-mail; stock-outs, returns and a reputation effect on conversion; contribution after product cost, shipping, fees, returns, hours and ads.

The score combines the quality of each decision with the fortnight's contribution and the share of orders delivered without incident, and is capped when orders are sold under a clause denying the right of withdrawal or a false reference price, or when commercial e-mails go to people who did not consent. Spanish (primary, Spain) and English.

Who it is for

An intermediate simulation for participants who already know the core concepts of the subject, designed for master's and MBA programmes.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.
