About this simulation

A 90-minute, 4-round basic Express simulation on taking an informal micro-business formal, for pre-incubation, incubation and formalisation programmes, chamber-of-commerce, municipal and microfinance entrepreneurship courses and technical, technological and undergraduate entrepreneurship, small-business and accounting courses.

Floridalma, a fictional seamstress in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, has sewn school and work uniforms for nine years with no tax number and no invoices; her fictional formalisation programme asks every quarter what the workshop sold, what was left for the family, how many hours the paperwork took and who is protected.

Round by round you choose whether and how to register and how to keep your books, answer an agro-exporter that buys only against an electronic invoice and staff the order, decide how to finance an embroidery machine and what to do before the small-taxpayer ceiling of Q150,000 a year, and meet the peak season and close the year.

Each quarter is scored on income for the family, sales, exposure, paperwork and protection; invoicing through a relative's tax number, or splitting sales across the family's to stay under the ceiling, caps the score. Spanish with English.

Who it is for

An introductory simulation that assumes no prior knowledge of the subject, designed for undergraduate courses. It also works in vocational and high-school programmes and in onboarding sessions.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: Lunes 4 de enero de 2027: si te inscribes, cómo, y los libros.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.
