About this simulation

The learner is a 44-year-old director of operations at a fictional Madrid water-treatment equipment maker who is offered three years running the group US subsidiary in Houston, with a package that looks generous gross and is thin net.

Decision 1, Monday 1 March 2027: how she compares the offer (gross against gross, a cost-of-living index, or net against net), where the family lives (stays in Madrid, moves with her, or joins a school year later, which sets her tax residence and the weeks apart) and who advises her (company HR, the company relocation provider, or her own adviser).

Decision 2: what she asks for first (nothing, more salary, or the package of housing at real cost, a trip home and partner career support), the tax clause (none, tax protection, or tax equalisation) and the currency of pay (dollars, euros, or split).

Decision 3: her Spanish contract (settlement and a local at-will contract, an assignment letter keeping contract, seniority and return, or a promise by email), social security (US system, US plus a voluntary Spanish agreement, or a certificate of coverage under the Spain-US agreement) and the repayment clause (sign, refuse, or taper).

Decision 4: the weeks before the visa (start remotely, remote plus a permitted business-visitor trip, or fly on the visa waiver and start work), the 2027 Spanish tax year (forget it, stop withholding as a non-resident, or declare as a resident with the exemption for work abroad and the double-tax deduction) and the way back (wait, a sponsor and a return-role conversation, or test the local market).

A deterministic model turns these into net savings against staying in thousands of euros, a family index, the relationship with headquarters, uncovered risk and weeks apart. The score combines the quality of each decision with those outcomes and is capped when she starts work on the visa waiver. Spanish (primary, Spain) and English.

Who it is for

An intermediate simulation for participants who already know the core concepts of the subject, designed for master's and MBA programmes.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.
