About this simulation

A 30-minute lab on cold outreach for high-school students. Three rounds: pick your person and do the five-minute research, write the message that survives the 6-second scan, and handle the follow-up, the no, and the silence. Teaches the research-first / write-second discipline, the specificity test, and the calibrated etiquette of follow-ups.

Who it is for

An introductory simulation that assumes no prior knowledge of the subject, designed for undergraduate courses. It also works in vocational and high-school programmes and in onboarding sessions.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 3 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • Pick the person you are writing to
  • Who exactly is this person? (name, role, where you found them)
  • One specific recent thing they did (article, talk, post)
  • Connection between that thing and your ask
  • Mutual tie (school, club, town, programme)
  • Smallest specific ask you can make
  • Pick the draft you would actually send
  • Did you include a graceful easy out?
  • Did you include one link to your work?
  • When do you send your follow-up?
