Sobre la simulación

A 90-minute, 4-round basic Express simulation for Spanish vocational training (Formacion Profesional, grado superior), module 1594 Gestion del montaje y mantenimiento de sistemas de electromedicina of the Tecnico Superior en Electromedicina Clinica.

You are Nerea Escarpizo, the new technician of the electromedicine service of Hospital General de Castrovega, a fictional public hospital of about 330 beds with 420 critical medical devices and 1,800 others, and the head of service asks you to organise the half-year over 24 weeks, from January to June 2030.

The service has 8 technicians and cannot reach everything: work orders arrive by phone, the preventive plan of the critical devices stays half done, the maintenance debt keeps them failing and the high technology waits for the manufacturer.

Round by round you decide two things: who maintains what (own technicians, manufacturer contracts or a contractor) and how the GMAO orders the work; the preventive plan and the spare parts; how to execute a manufacturer field safety notice on 60 infusion pumps and whether every repaired device is tested before it returns to the ward; and how to answer an ICU ventilator that stopped during use and a mid-year budget cut.

Each week the technician-hours, the corrective backlog, the preventive compliance, the failures, the downtime, the expected adverse incidents and the cost are recomputed.

Each round is scored on the savings against current practice, the availability of critical equipment, the expected adverse incidents and the critical preventive compliance, with the cost, the failures, the pending hours and the infractions shown but not scored. On critical equipment, preventive maintenance is patient safety, not an expense.

Returning a repaired device untested while signing it as tested, or hiding a serious incident instead of notifying it, caps the score. Spanish with English.
