Sobre la simulación

A 90-minute, 4-round basic Express simulation for Spanish vocational training (Formacion Profesional), module 0990 Gestion de la produccion en carpinteria y mueble of the Tecnico Superior en Diseno y Amueblamiento (Real Decreto 1579/2011).

The learner is Irene Lorente, a newly qualified furniture technician who plans the capacity of a fictional kitchen and hotel-furniture factory in Yecla (Murcia) through 2027: one CNC nesting machine and an edge-bander, two peaks a year above the plant's capacity, and the lacquering and part of the assembly sent to outside workshops when the plant overflows.

Four situations set the year's course: an order book with two peaks, and how the board and the fittings are bought (on the needs of the master plan) and how the year's capacity is planned (a capacity plan by quarter with a second shift for the peaks); the spring peak, and what the plant makes and what it buys out (the core in the plant, only the lacquering bought out on a written specification) and how the CNC is maintained (a preventive maintenance plan); the autumn peak, and how the overflow is subcontracted (written orders to approved workshops, followed every week) and how the shifts cover it (a second shift with the twelve hours of rest kept); and a hotel order, and how it is accepted (deliveries split on the CNC's load after checking the margin) and how the year is accounted (a cost account by order with the make-or-buy list).

Two critical errors cap the round: a bridged door interlock on the CNC, and shifts chained without the twelve hours of rest. KPIs: sales with margin, controllable cost, pieces delivered late or incomplete per 1,000 and thousand euros of stock without an order or of rejected parts. Lesson: subcontracting relieves the peaks but gives away margin and control. Spanish primary, English parity.
