About this simulation

A 90-minute, 4-round basic Express simulation on US consumer-protection regulators (FTC, FDA, the Justice Department under the ADA, OSHA and Arizona ADOSH, the HHS Office for Civil Rights under HIPAA, CFPB, HUD, CPSC and FCC) for US high-school Career and Technical Education marketing courses (Arizona Marketing Technical Standard 8.8) and introductory business-law classes.

Dos Arroyos Launchpad (a fictional small-business incubator in Mesa, Arizona) opens a tenant help desk: as the assistant on a DECA co-op placement, you route twenty tenant questions to the agency whose mission and rule cover each one, and fix six live problems the way each rule asks: a serum that claims to cure acne, a cooking game for children that collects their data, a promotional email to a bought list, a shop with a step at the door, a pharmacy email sent to the wrong person, and a busy shared kitchen.

At the end you write the one-page guide "Who regulates what" for new tenants. Scored on tenant profit, tenant and customer trust, regulator literacy, and compliance with CAN-SPAM, COPPA, the FD&C Act, ADA Title III, HIPAA breach notification, OSHA standards and the TCPA.

Who it is for

An introductory simulation that assumes no prior knowledge of the subject, designed for undergraduate courses. It also works in vocational and high-school programmes and in onboarding sessions.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: Monday 1 February 2027: the first eight questions and the serum.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • Where to send the 8 questions (Part 1)
  • Sonoran Glow’s serum
  • StarChef Kids (ages 8 to 12)
  • The Launchpad Letter
  • The Main Street shop and the letter
  • The pharmacy’s misdirected email
  • The commissary kitchen
  • The guide “Who regulates what” and 12 more questions (Part 2)
