About this simulation

A 90-minute, 4-round basic Express simulation on SWOT analysis for US high-school Career and Technical Education marketing courses (Arizona Marketing Technical Standard 7.5) and introductory marketing, business and small-business classes.

Juniper Jolt Coffee Co. (a fictional company with four cafes in Flagstaff, Arizona): as strategy intern on a DECA co-op placement, you write the SWOT - one lead strength, weakness, opportunity and threat chosen from fact cards that are specific or vague, evidenced or opinion, inside or outside the business - and then use it to set prices, answer a national drive-thru chain that opens nearby, choose an investment and decide where to grow, with $270,000 to spend.

The owner only approves moves that point to a line in the SWOT; a move without one starts late. Scored on SWOT quality, the operating profit of the year, the app members kept when the rival opens, and how many decisions the SWOT backs.

Who it is for

An introductory simulation that assumes no prior knowledge of the subject, designed for undergraduate courses. It also works in vocational and high-school programmes and in onboarding sessions.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: Monday 1 March 2027: the inside — strengths and weaknesses.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • Lead strength (inside)
  • Lead weakness (inside)
  • Lead opportunity (outside)
