About this simulation

Puesta a punto de inyectora (Injection Molding Setup). Spanish vocational training (FP), Fabricacion Mecanica family: module 0724 Conformado por moldeo cerrado of the Tecnico en Conformado por Moldeo de Metales y Polimeros (grado medio, Real Decreto 387/2011) and module 0531 Moldeo cerrado of the Tecnico Superior en Programacion de la Produccion en Moldeo de Metales y Polimeros (Real Decreto 882/2011).

The learner is Itziar Lizarralde, a newly qualified mould setter at a fictional technical-plastics injection shop, setting up a two-cavity mould for a glass-filled polyamide charger housing on a Monday mould change and leaving it ready for the night shift.

Four rounds, four phases of one setup: the preparation (the machine whose clamp force and shot size fit the mould; the validated setup sheet and dried material), filling (a short shot and flash at once; injection speed and switchover by partial fills; one parameter at a time, ten shots, parts weighed and logged), packing and cooling (a sink mark and an out-of-tolerance dimension; a gate-freeze study before the holding pressure; cooling measured; a stuck part removed with the machine stopped and locked) and the release and handover (a sample from each cavity measured against the drawing; the final sheet and change log for the night setter).

Eight four-option decisions scored on good parts, cycle over target, avoidable setup cost and process mastery; three critical errors cap the round at 40: injecting with a guard bridged, putting a hand into the mould without stopping and locking the machine, and releasing production on a single good part. Lesson: each defect points to a parameter; changing several at once hides which one.

Training level only: decision practice that complements supervised workshop training; fictional company, people and figures; no real process settings. Spanish player-facing strings with full English parity.

What participants learn

After the session, participants will be able to:

  • Prepare an injection-moulding setup from a known point: choose a machine whose clamp force and shot size fit the mould, start from the validated setup sheet and condition the material as its datasheet says
  • Distinguish short shots, flash, sink marks, dimensional errors and warpage, and link each defect to the parameter that answers it: speed and switchover, the holding phase or cooling
  • Justify changing one parameter at a time, letting the process settle and logging part weights, with figures from the play showing why several changes at once cost process mastery
  • Apply machine safety at the press: never bridge a guard to watch the mould, and remove a stuck part only with the machine stopped and locked
  • Decide release on a measured sample from each cavity signed by quality, and hand the night setter the final sheet, the change log and a reaction plan

Who it is for

An intermediate simulation for participants who already know the core concepts of the subject, designed for master's and MBA programmes.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: Lunes 8 de febrero, 07:00: la preparación.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • En qué máquina va el molde
  • Con qué valores y qué material arrancas
  • Qué parámetro tocas para llenar
  • Cómo haces los cambios
  • Cómo atacas el rechupe y la cota
  • Cómo resuelves el enfriamiento y la pieza pegada
  • Con qué liberas la producción
  • Qué dejas al turno de noche
