About this simulation

A 90-minute, 4-round basic Express simulation for Spanish vocational training (Formacion Profesional, grado medio), module 1700 Control de Legionella y otros organismos nocivos en instalaciones de riesgo of the Tecnico en Sanidad ambiental aplicada (Real Decreto 1157/2024).

The learner is Dario Fuenmayor, a newly qualified treatment technician of a fictional biocide services company, assigned to the cooling tower and the changing-room hot water of a fictional dairy plant of 190 workers, with a school 300 m downwind.

Four situations set the plant's course in 2027: a routine sample of the tower above the level at which the plan orders it stopped and how the cause is looked for, the re-sampling after the shock cleaning and the cause found in the records (a dosing pump stopped without an alarm, a dead leg, a purge on a timer), the summer treatment in a heat wave with the hot-water return below 50 C, and the annual review of the plan with the follow-up.

After a positive, the plan sets the order and admits no shortcuts. Scored on the risks under control, the cost of the measures, the days with a risk open and the people-days exposed; training-level decision practice that complements the plan of each installation, the product labels and the qualified training treatment work requires, and gives no medical advice.

Two hard-fails cap the round at 40: keeping the tower running while a second sample confirms the result, and pouring an acid descaler into the hypochlorite tank (Real Decreto 487/2022). Spanish primary, English parity.

Who it is for

An introductory simulation that assumes no prior knowledge of the subject, designed for undergraduate courses. It also works in vocational and high-school programmes and in onboarding sessions.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: lunes 8 de marzo, 8:10: el positivo y los registros.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • Qué se hace primero
  • Cómo se busca la causa
  • Cómo se vuelve a muestrear
  • Qué se hace con la causa
  • Cómo se trata la torre en verano
  • Qué se hace con el agua caliente
  • Qué pasa con el plan
  • Cómo se sigue la torre
