About this simulation

A 90-minute, 4-round procedural Express simulation for the Spanish vocational title Tecnico Superior en Educacion Infantil (module 0018, Intervencion con familias y atencion a menores en riesgo social): the detection, recording and notification of a child at risk in a municipal nursery school.

The learner is Leyre Atondo Larumbe (fictional), tutor of the 2-3 classroom in Villaurbe, a fictional Spanish town; Izan (fictional), 2 years and 9 months, shows ambiguous indicators of lack of care - the same clothes, hunger, a severe nappy rash, a bruise on his arm, absences without notice - while his young mother works night shifts and her partner collects him some days.

In four moments you decide what you do with what you see and how you weigh it and whom you tell; how you hold the conversation with the family and whether the centre notifies social services; what the school does in the follow-up and what you do when the partner arrives to collect him smelling of alcohol; and what the school brings to the review of the family plan until June.

The strong path: an objective observation record over time, the indicators weighed with the guide and brought the same day to the coordinator for well-being and protection, a private conversation with the family from facts and strengths with help offered, the centre notification of a situation of risk to social services with the family told first, a coordinated follow-up, the child not handed to an adult who cannot look after him, and a short evolution report to the plan review.

Scored on protocol fit, needs left without a response, the chance that the family is inside a support plan, your time and energy, the family trust in the school, your standing with the team and social services and practice risk, which counts false positives and false negatives; three shortcuts (the record sent by WhatsApp from a personal phone, telling the partner who reported, the whole file handed to a relative in a family dispute) come back and cap the score.

Fictional people and places; real Spanish law (LO 1/1996, LOPIVI) cited at principle level; training level only. Spanish primary, English included.

Who it is for

An intermediate simulation for participants who already know the core concepts of the subject, designed for master's and MBA programmes.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: Lunes 18 de enero de 2027: lo que ves.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • Qué haces con lo que ves
  • Cómo valoras los indicadores y a quién se lo cuentas
  • Cómo planteas la conversación con la familia
  • Qué haces con lo que ahora sabes
  • Qué hace la escuela en el seguimiento
  • Qué haces a las 16:30, cuando llega Jonatan
  • Qué aporta la escuela a la revisión del plan
  • Qué haces con Izan y la familia hasta junio
