About this simulation

The learner is a 37-year-old senior project engineer at a fictional Madrid electricity distribution company who is offered the lead of a two-year programme with twelve nights a month away, in the same week her partner is offered a team of his own; they are unmarried and unregistered, with a four-year-old daughter, and have dodged the conversation about whose career leads for a year.

Decision 1, Monday 1 February 2027: how she raises it (as decided, as a yes-or-no question, or both careers on the table), what she negotiates with her employer (accept as offered, more money only, or fewer nights, a later start and a written end date) and which career leads (hers with no date, hers for two years with his turn unwritten, or hers for two years with the switch date written and his team taken with an adaptation of working time).

Decision 2: the account (50/50, proportional, or one account in both names), a compensation for the trailing partner (none, a vague promise, or a monthly amount into an index fund in his name) and help at home (none, a carer registered with Social Security, or the carer paid cash in hand).

Decision 3, after a lawyer reminds him he would keep nothing: their legal status (as they are, registered as a couple, or registered with a pact in a public deed), his career (nothing, a course he pays in his own time, or a certification paid by the household and protected time) and the review (none, ad hoc, or quarterly with a ledger).

Decision 4, when her employer asks for an extension and he receives an outside offer: the extension (same terms, conditions, or hand over on the agreed date), his offer (he declines, they juggle, or they switch who leads at home) and the ledger (keep, stop the compensation, or settle).

A deterministic month-by-month model turns these into his week of work and home, both career trajectories, what he puts in without cover in thousands of euros, what the household gains and open risk. The score combines the quality of each decision with those outcomes and is capped when the household help is paid cash in hand without Social Security registration. Spanish (primary, Spain) and English.

Who it is for

An intermediate simulation for participants who already know the core concepts of the subject, designed for master's and MBA programmes.

How a session runs

  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.
