About this simulation

A 90-minute, 4-round Express simulation in the learner's own chair on the first call from a reporter when you are not the spokesperson: buying time honestly, calling the people who decide who speaks, preparing three messages with a fact each, speaking on the record, answering the hard question with what is true without announcing what is not decided, talking about an injured worker without his health data, correcting a wrong figure without a war and telling your own people first, for lifelong-learning, leadership-communication and media-readiness programmes for managers.

Noelia Tamargo (fictional) runs Laminados del Nalon, a fictional aluminium rolling plant of 380 people in Langreo, Asturias, owned by the fictional German Grupo Kolbe; at 17:55 on a Thursday a reporter calls her: she has heard that line 2 will close with sixty dismissals and that last week's accident happened because the line was run down, and she publishes the next day at noon.

The group really is reviewing line 2, with no decision until March, and a technician really was injured. You decide what you say on the phone and whom you call first, what you prepare and the ground rules you agree, how you answer the jobs question and the accident question in the interview, and what you do about a wrong figure in the article and afterwards with your workforce and your own role.

Scored on how faithfully the story reports what is happening, the chance it carries your message, the margin you keep on your main client's orders, your time and calm, the trust of the workforce, your standing with the group and open risk; giving the reporter the injured worker's health details, or telling the radio the group's confidential worst case, caps the score. Spanish with English.

Who it is for

An intermediate simulation for participants who already know the core concepts of the subject, designed for master's and MBA programmes.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: Jueves 21 de enero de 2027, 17:55: la llamada.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • Qué dices al teléfono
  • A quién llamas primero
  • Qué preparas
  • En qué condiciones hablas
  • «¿Vais a cerrar la línea 2?»
  • «¿El accidente fue por falta de mantenimiento?»
  • Qué haces con el artículo
  • Qué haces después
