About this simulation

A 90-minute, 4-round basic Express simulation on running a high-school agricultural enterprise for one year, for Career and Technical Education in agriculture (agricultural education programs with an FFA chapter and a Supervised Agricultural Experience), 4-H and extension youth-entrepreneurship programs and introductory farm management.

Jorgensen Farm Fresh Eggs (the fictional entrepreneurship SAE of a 16-year-old FFA member near Pella, Iowa): you run a laying-hen flock through its first laying year, March 2027 to February 2028.

Round by round you choose the size of the flock and how the records are kept, where the eggs are sold and how they are handled, the light for the short days and what to do about sick hens, and the winter plan and the year-end close.

Each quarter is scored on lay rate, feed cost per dozen, average price, record quality and net return; holding eggs above 45 degrees F, or selling eggs during a drug withdrawal period, caps the score. English with Spanish.

Who it is for

An introductory simulation that assumes no prior knowledge of the subject, designed for undergraduate courses. It also works in vocational and high-school programmes and in onboarding sessions.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: Saturday 27 February 2027: the flock and the record book.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.
