About this simulation

The learner is a 44-year-old operations director at a fictional food canner near Zaragoza with EUR 240k idle after the sale of a family flat, plus EUR 60k in the own funds of her bank, and must decide who manages her money and on what terms until she retires in 2048.

Decision 1, Monday 1 March 2027: what she starts from (a product, what the bank recommends, or a written plan with goals and dates), the mix she can hold in the suitability test (90 per cent equities, 20 per cent, or an honest 60 per cent given that she sold in the 2020 fall) and how she reads costs (the return of last year, the management fee, or the all-in cost in euros).

Decision 2: who advises her (bank advice paid through its funds, an adviser charging 0.8 per cent of assets, or a fee-only independent adviser), where the money sits (the funds of the bank at 1.6 per cent, a robo-advisor index portfolio at 0.6 per cent, or index funds she runs herself at 0.2 per cent) and what she checks before signing (nothing, the CNMV register, or the register, independence, a written all-in fee and custody).

Decision 3, after a 22 per cent market fall: sell, hold or rebalance; a relative passes on a guaranteed 1 per cent a month offer from an unregistered manager (decline, invest EUR 30k, or verify and decline in writing); and the first annual cost report (ignore, read the percentage, or reconcile it in euros).

Decision 4: the old bank funds (keep, sell and pay tax on the gain, or transfer fund to fund without tax), the proposal of the adviser to move to 1 per cent of assets (accept, keep the arrangement with a rebalancing rule, or drop advice) and the EUR 40k for the degree of her daughter in 2031 (invested, in the current account, or in a laddered deposit and Treasury bills).

A deterministic year-by-year model turns these into wealth at 65 in thousands of 2027 euros, peace of mind, transparency, open risk and fees over 21 years. The score combines the quality of each decision with those outcomes and is capped when money goes to the unregistered manager. Spanish (primary, Spain) and English.

Who it is for

An intermediate simulation for participants who already know the core concepts of the subject, designed for master's and MBA programmes.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.
