About this simulation

Foundation engineering decision simulation set on Bogotá Sabana lacustrine clays. Students compute allowable bearing capacity with proper water-table correction, compare shallow-mat vs. pilotes excavados vs. micropilotes against a fixed-price contract, negotiate under client pressure, and specify a construction-phase monitoring plan compliant with NSR-10 Título H.

Who it is for

An intermediate simulation for participants who already know the core concepts of the subject, designed for master's and MBA programmes.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: Compute Allowable Bearing Capacity.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • Water-table correction
  • Computed qadm (kPa) for 2.0 × 2.0 m footing
  • Foundation budget you commit to (COP M, additional vs estimator baseline)
  • Negotiation stance
  • Value-engineering recovery target (COP M)
  • Pursue contract amendment (precio adicional por condiciones de suelo)?
  • Settlement plates (placas de asentamiento) — biweekly topographic readings
  • Piezometers (piezómetros) — pore pressure monitoring during excavation
  • PIT / Cross-hole pile integrity tests (only meaningful if pilotes were chosen)
  • Inclinometers on adjacent retaining elements
