About this simulation

A 90-minute, 4-round basic Express simulation on running a residential solar install crew for one quarter: sizing a home system on twelve months of bills rather than the roof, a payment or the neighbour; quoting it on the economics that exist after the federal residential clean energy credit (IRC 25D) ended for expenditures made after 31 December 2025, with Nevada crediting exported energy at 75% of the retail rate and its purchase cover page (NRS 598.9813); keeping every installer protected on every residential roof 6 feet or more up (29 CFR 1926.501(b)(13)) and planning the install day the day before; passing inspection with a self-inspection and waiting for the utility's permission to operate; and handing over honestly and answering a customer someone else over-promised, for high-school CTE energy, electrical and construction programs and solar-installer certificates, with NABCEP PV Associate named as a hook.

Reina Tuilagi, 20, is the fictional crew lead of the fictional Joshua Wash Solar in North Las Vegas, Nevada, from April to July 2027.

Round by round you decide how each system is sized and how the savings are quoted, how the roof is worked and how the install day is planned, how the crew prepares for inspection and handles the interconnection, and how the system is handed over and a complaint answered; at each decision point the quarter is projected again with the decisions taken so far.

Each round is scored on the kW delivered as quoted, the money owed back to customers, the callback risk, the crew margin and customer trust, with open violations shown alongside; quoting a tax credit that no longer exists or working a roof without fall protection caps the score. English with Spanish.

What participants learn

After the session, participants will be able to:

  • Size a residential solar installation on twelve months of bills and quote it on the utility rate and the state's net-metering credit, with a production range, a simple payback and no expired tax credit
  • Plan an install day for safety and quality with fall arrest for everyone on the roof, the plan set and materials checked the day before, a briefing and a heat plan
  • Prepare a job to pass inspection and interconnection first time with a self-inspection against the plan set, the utility application filed at contract and no power before permission to operate
  • Decide how to answer a customer someone else over-promised, with the truth, a fix and a written remedy, and hand over an installation the homeowner can use
  • Analyze a quote as a promise by counting the money owed back to customers as the cost of every promise the size and the quote cannot keep

Who it is for

An introductory simulation that assumes no prior knowledge of the subject, designed for undergraduate courses. It also works in vocational and high-school programmes and in onboarding sessions.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: 5 April 2027: the size and the quote.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • How each system is sized
  • How the savings are quoted
  • How the roof is worked
  • How the install day is planned
  • How the crew prepares for inspection
  • How the interconnection is handled
  • How the system is handed over
  • How Mrs. Grubb is answered
