About this simulation

A 90-minute, 4-round basic Express simulation for Spanish vocational training (Formacion Profesional, grado superior), module 1574 Gestion eficiente del agua of the Tecnico Superior en Gestion del agua (Real Decreto 113/2017).

The learner is Irene Mozota, the water-efficiency technician of the fictional municipal water company of a town of about 24,600 inhabitants (11,800 subscribers), who runs the supply of 2027: dividing the network into metered sectors, active leak control, meters renewed by the volume they lose, pressure management and pumping at the optimum point, the drought emergency plan, a 24-hour repair crew, a 2028 tariff by blocks with a social rate and a quarterly water balance.

A town's first source of water is its own leaks. Scored on water registered (the share of the water injected that reaches a meter), cost per subscriber, hours without water and complaints; no hydraulic, treatment or sampling procedures. Two hard-fails cap the round at 40: connecting a well to the network without the health authority's report (Real Decreto 3/2023 arts.

31.1 and 32) and keeping a water-quality incident from the users (Real Decreto 3/2023 art. 23.5). Spanish primary, English parity.

Who it is for

An introductory simulation that assumes no prior knowledge of the subject, designed for undergraduate courses. It also works in vocational and high-school programmes and in onboarding sessions.

How a session runs

  1. The instructor creates a session from the Eureka dashboard and invites the participants.
  2. Participants play 4 rounds. In each one they submit their decisions and the simulation calculates the results. The first round opens with: 11 de enero: los sectores y las fugas.
  3. The simulation can be run in English, Español.
  4. The instructor follows each participant's progress and results from the dashboard, and uses the class results for the debrief.

Decisions participants make

The decisions participants make during the simulation:

  • Cómo se divide y se mide la red
  • Cómo se buscan las fugas
  • Qué contadores se renuevan
  • Cómo se gestionan la presión y el bombeo
  • Cómo se afronta la sequía
  • Cómo se reparan las averías
  • La tarifa de 2028
  • Cómo se informa del balance y de las incidencias
