Yesenia Tolentino, 17, a fictional high-school junior in Fresno, California, invests $3,000 of summer-job earnings and follows the money for ten years, July 2027 to June 2037, along one scripted, fictional market path: a rise, a hype peak, a crash and a recovery, scored in four thirty-month periods.
Round by round you choose the account and what it buys, the contribution habit and your answer to the hype, what to do at the bottom of the crash and how to meet a car repair, and who manages the money and how much of your first salary you invest.
Each period is scored on portfolio value, growth above the money put in, costs, diversification and investor discipline; a false birth date on a trading-app application (31 CFR 1023.220), or being paid to promote a coin without disclosure (Securities Act of 1933, section 17(b)), caps the score.
