A 90-minute, 4-round Express simulation from the seat of the first non-family people director of a third-generation family firm, on how, and whether, the next generation enters the company: building the rule with the family through a fair process rather than having the parents approve it; objective entry criteria - years outside with a promotion, an open post, the same selection as an outsider, market pay and the same evaluation; individual development paths outside and inside the firm; an ownership programme and a voice for the majority who will never work in the company; the rule applied to the chief executive's son and explained in person; a real post, in private, for a cousin already on the payroll without one; the first senior post filled by one process for the family candidate, the non-family manager and the outsider; and the year reported to the family.

Inmaculada Quintano Cubillo (fictional) is people director of Embutidos Ortun, a fictional cured-meats maker in Villadiego (Burgos) owned by three sibling branches; the board and the family council ask her for a policy for the eleven members of the fourth generation, applied to the first cases in 2027.

You decide how the policy is built and what the entry rule says, what is offered to the fourth generation and what is done for the owners who stay outside, what you answer the chief executive's son and what you do with a cousin hired into a post without content, and how the head of a new production line is chosen and how the year is reported to the family assembly.

Scored on the next generation prepared, the chance that the policy holds, the 2027 margin protected, your time and energy, the non-family managers' trust, the fairness the branches see, and open risk; two shortcuts (a cousin kept on full salary while he studies abroad with no work, candidates asked about their plans to have children) come back and cap the score.
