Does the team decide better than its members on their own?
A shipwreck in the Mona Passage, a life raft and 15 items. Each student ranks them, the team agrees on a single order and, at the end, everyone sees how far they landed from an expert's ranking.

The tourist catamaran Amanecer II hits a half-submerged container and sinks within minutes. Your group reaches the raft with 15 items salvaged from the cabin.
In class you will rank all 15 and your team will have to agree. Only then will you see how far you were from the expert.
Three lessons no reading can give
Did the group add or subtract?
If the team's agreed order lands closer to the expert than its members' average, the group added value. If it lands further away, someone dragged the rest along, and the class sees it in numbers.
Who knows and who persuades
In phase 3 each student bets on which teammate came closest. Checking that bet against the result opens the conversation about influence and listening.
Leadership without a title
Nobody is given the leader's role. The platform picks at random who records the agreement, so holding the keyboard carries no authority.
From each person's hunch to the group's decision
Everyone ranks
In silence, each student ranks the 15 items from most to least useful.
Consensus
The team discusses and agrees on a single order. A member picked at random records it.
Prediction
Each student predicts which teammate came closest to the expert.
Comparison
After the expert's video, each student sees their order, the team's and the expert's, item by item, with the distances.
The numbers you need to close the class
Distance is the sum of the position differences from the expert's order across the 15 items: lower is better. Your panel computes it for every student and every team as soon as a phase closes.
- Each team's distance and its members' average
- The group's learning: the members' average minus the team's distance
- The best and worst member, and how many beat their team
- The prediction matrix: who they thought was right and who was
One team: did the group add or subtract?
Sample dataHow the class runs, step by step
Set up the session
You create the session, upload teams and students and hand each student an individual link. The facilitator guide walks through every step with a short video.
The accident
You play the shipwreck video: the raft, the 15 items and nobody coming to look for them yet.
Individual, consensus and prediction
You advance the phases from your panel and see live who has submitted. If the student recording a team's agreement is missing, you open the phase to that whole team in one click.
The expert
You play the expert's video and open the comparison: each student sees their distance and their team's.
Debrief
With each team's numbers on screen, the conversation rests on data rather than impressions.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take?
One class session. You open each phase from your panel and decide how long each one gets; the facilitator guide suggests a running order for the whole session.
What do students need?
A browser and their individual link. Every student signs in with their own account, because phases 1 and 3 are personal. There is nothing to install.
When do they see the expert's ranking?
Only in phase 4, when you open it. Until then the ranking is not in the student's browser, so nobody can look it up early.
Do students see each other's results?
No. Each student sees their own distance from the expert and their team's. Comparisons between teams and the prediction matrix are for the instructor, in the debrief.
Which languages?
The simulation runs in Spanish and English; each student can switch language on their own screen.
How is it priced?
Per participant. Tell us how many students and when, and we will send you a proposal. It includes setting up the session, the facilitator guide and support during the class.
